X-Plus Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962!

On April 14, 2016, X-Plus officially announced on the RIC site the release of the Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962 from 1962’s King Kong Vs Godzilla!! ギガンティックシリーズキンゴジ!!Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.27.38 AM

Pre-orders are open right now for the RIC exclusive with a price point of ¥39,900 which translates to about $365 based on currency exchange rates. The window for the RIC pre-order closes on April 18th!!! That is only 4 days! The release window for this figure is looking like it will be the end of May and/or early June!! That will be a busy month for collectors with the 30cm Battra and now a Gigantic Godzilla 1962!! Start saving your pennies!!

The Gigantic Godzilla 1962 will stand 48cm tall!!! Now, just to put this into perspective, the Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla is a hair shorter at 47cm!! This Godzilla is BIG! Godzilla 62 will also be 65cm from foot tip to the tail tip(if I read that correctly)! You are going to need a big ass shelf for this big sum bitch!! Godzilla will also be made of PVC, or as I like to call it, VINYL! BAM!

Based off the translation from the RIC site, the RIC exclusive for Godzilla 1962 will be painted dorsal plates to give off the look of charging up dorsal plates. Instead of actually putting a light up gimmick, the dorsal plates will look similar to that of the Gigantic Series Godzilla 2000, the Roaring Godzilla 2014 and the Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla. Honestly, if this figure had a light up feature, it would probably cost a whole lot more money than it already does. On another hand, to get this figure to light up sounds like a real pain in the ass at the end of the day. That is a lot of wires and lights to shove up inside this figure. I am good with the RIC gimmick that they are going for. Which one are you going to get, RIC or standard?!

Upon announcement, these photo’s for the figure are unpainted. This leaves so imagination to us collectors to visualize what this big ass figure is going to look like when its all said and done but let me ask you this, are we really doubting X-Plus? Sure, there have been some hits and misses in the past but X-Plus has a very good track record so on my own account, I am not worried about what it will look like. I am sure it will look FRESH.

What else about this figure?! This is a brand new sculpt fro Kaibutsuya, the same company behind the Gigantic Series GMK and Burning Godzilla figures. While in Japan, a few other collectors and myself had the privilege of seeing this beauty still in clay form having the finishing touches sculpted on to it. When we saw this guy, our jaw’s hit the floor. You will not be disappointed! This is also a suit accurate Godzilla where as the previous Godzilla’s in this line were stylized. It is nice to mix things up and to have a suit accurate Gigantic Series release is a great addition to the line. Maybe we will get that M1 50cm Godzilla 1964 later down the road!!!

I am also going to take a guess the legs will be reinforced to support the weight of the figure so it does not slouch or droop in the warmer months. The tail will need to be assembled right out of the box. The box will most likely be fashioned in the same manner as the GGMK and GBG. Be prepared for a big ass box too!

X-Plus collectors thought a Gigantic Series Godzilla 1954 was going to be coming next but this came out of left field! That only means we will have a 5th release in this line later down the road with the G54. Time will tell! Amiami, Hobby Link Japan and other online retailers have not offered the Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962 just yet on their sites. Expect them to pop up in the next few days or so. Stay tuned for more pictures once they are unveiled by X-Plus!!

FRESH! I can’t wait to get this guy!

  1. This is honestly a dream figure for me. I have been dying for a Gigantic figure to do justice to how gorgeous and bulky this suit is. Also being the first suit accurate representation in this line is all the more reason to be excited. Personally I likely won’t do the RIC version if the RIC feature is a special paint app on the dorsal plates. If it came with a mini-prop like the GBG did then I would consider spending the extra money.
