Bandai Biollante Movie Monster Series 6 Inch Vinyl Figure!

YO! Lets talk about the new Bandai 6″ Movie Monster Series Biollante figure! Bandai teased this figure in the fall of 2017. Collectors were pretty excited for this and I think it is safe to say for good reason. Sure, we are getting ANOTHER Heisei Bandai figure but this is the first time we are getting a Kaiju from the Heisei era that has not been done in 6″ form yet. Hell, this marks the first time we are seeing a new Bandai Biollate figure since the original 8″ Biollante that came out in 1992 with that cool ass box.

So why Bandai? Bandai has seen a resurgence of new figures since the release of Shin Godzilla back in 2016. Sure, we got two new Bandai figures from Legendary’s Godzilla (2014) with Godzilla and the male MUTO figure but it was not really until Shin Godzilla came out that we started seeing more new stuff. Most stuff is reworked reissues. We have seen new releases of Burning Godzilla, Godzilla 2000, Destoroyah, Kiryu and MechaGhidorah. These figures have seen quite a few releases already over the years since the dawn of the 6″ line, dating back to 1998 with the Godzilla Island and Toho Kaiju Series lines which later morphed into the on going Move Monster Series. So throw in a new 6″ Kaiju that has not seen the light of day in the Bandai line in over 26 years! Pretty exciting actually.

Lets dig into the figure. Just released in the Spring of 2018. Once you get your Biollante, take it outside and put it in the ground, water her and watch her grow! NO! Do not do that! Sorry guys, your Biollante figure is not going to grow bigger. The figure stands just shy of 5” tall. Yea, she is short but even then, she is a bulky figure. I honestly do not see any issue with the size of the figure. I think it is a good size when all is said and done. The figure is priced at $15 right out of Japan. For those of us that pre-ordered the figure from online retailers like Hobby Search of Hobby Link Japan, you will have to pay a shipping fee, so that makes obtaining this figure close to the $30 mark. Still not bad.IMG_9421

Detail wise, the figure looks great. As I said in my video review, the only points I hit the figure for were for the back tentacles lacking paint and not scaling with the rest of the figure.  Everything else honestly looks really good. Detail on the legs, stomach, head and mouth are all done really well. The paint job is subtle throughout with some light green highlights across the back. The mouth, teeth and eyes are painted nicely. I actually really dig the color of the eyes. Kind of like a magenta color. The stomach has a nice glossy orange to it. The figure itself is made of green vinyl so it does appear to mostly flat green but it has some depth to the paint job. Details of vines and plant line membrane are nicely sculpted throughout. The main tentacles are painted and detailed nicely too. Really no complaints.  The tag is done with a gate fold with Biollante images and Movie Monster Series titling. Pretty plain and simple. There are a few points of articulation. You can spin the head round and round if you want. The forward tentacles can be rotated as well. Yay!

Not a bad figure at all. A very good release in my opinion. Considering the size and price of about $15, a very good release. If you missed out on the preorder for this, you will have to utilize some of our Kaiju dealer friends such as Mike Johnson and Showcase Daikaiju, just to name a couple. Keep in mind, the figure was released in Japan for 1,800 JPY. Factor in  your shipping charge to the USA and you are looking around $30. If you are buying from a dealer here in the USA, expect to pay a few bucks more. Prices can vary from dealer to dealer.

Anyway, if you didn’t grab this figure, I highly recommend it. The sculpt is really nice and it does look a bit better than the original 8” from 1992. Just my two cents. I still love the original but this new one looks really nice.

  1. I was hoping to get Godzilla 71 with him holding the eyeballs of Hedorah from Godzilla vinyl wars collection but someone at diamond said it was cancelled. I still want it but I might have to check Steve Agin unless you might have it. Let me know and we can work something out. Thanks. BTW- Great Biollante figure.
