What is the Favorite Sculptors Line from X-Plus?!

Hey X-Plus collectors! X-Plus has been releasing some new figures in a line dubbed the “Favorite Sculptors Line“. What does this mean? I was curious about this when I was doing my write up for the newly announced 25cm Death Ghidorah figure, because that too, falls under the FSL (Favorite Sculptors Line).  My curiosity lead me to ask Gee Okamoto, right from X-Plus.

Gee told me that the Favorite Sculptors Line is basically forming to be a line based around famous garage kits. Gee said he has chosen the ones he likes. That is pretty damn cool if you ask me. The new Death Ghidorah was previously released as a model kit from GOWROW. What else is in the FSL? Coming out in January, a Toho Large Monster Series 25cm Baragon 2001 and Mothra 2001 will be released under this line. Both of those kaiju were MM28 (Monster Maker 28) kits. I really can’t wait for these figures personally.

Other figures for this line include coin banks that are about about 11cm/4in tall from the Ultra universe and the Showa Gamera films as well as a 30cm Ultra Kaiju.

So there you have it! The Favorite Sculptors Line is based around famous model kits that were previously released and chosen by Gee Okamoto himself! What would you like to see released in this line? How about a MM28 Godzilla 1974? Maybe I already asked Gee to do that!? HA!

Questions for YOU!!

Hey yo! If you are here on FVHQ reading this, I have a question for you: Why are you here?! What I am getting at is what would you like to see on this page. Just posting my reviews is almost pointless honestly because you get that content on YouTube and my Facebook page. So what would you like to see me do here? I do not use utilize this as much as I really would like to and I have even contemplated the idea of just closing this site. There are other websites that have much more detailed info (Kaiju Addicts, Club Tokyo) so I do not really want to be a clone of those sites.

So what can I do differently? What would you like to see me do? Write ups? Written reviews? Top 5 lists? Favorite lists? News updates? You tell me?

Again..if you are reading this…I want your feed back. Post in the comments section on THIS PAGE and talk to me! FRESH! XD!

Diamond Reissuing the 25cm’s!!

IMG_3585

So Diamond will be reissuing the 25cm line starting in 2018.  I knew this day would come. It was inevitable.  Should I be mad? No. Am I a little bummed? Yes.  Why?

Well, first off, lets talk about the AWESOMENESS this means for X-Plus collectors. This means X-Plus collectors that have been wanting to fill in gaps in their collections or those who simply been wanting to add that certain 25cm figure to their line up now have the chance to do so at a very reasonable price. You won’t have to hunt on eBay or YJA and you won’t have to deal with 3rd party sellers and their jacked up prices. King Caesar and more notably, the Landing Stage Hedorah are among the most sought after 25cm figures and now you will be able to get this VERY SOON! Make sure you check Vampire Robots and Flossies Gifts for the new pre-orders.  Seriously, this is great news. I am happy for those collectors who have been wanting these harder to find figures who will now be able to get them without paying out the ass.  Let’s be honest, some figures were going for highway robbery in the various outlets and that does bother me that some people are charging 3x, 4x or more for a figure that originally cost $100 or so (non-RIC) before shipping.

IMG_4957

What else does this good news mean? Well, if X-Plus is doing business with Diamond for reissues, this means business is good on the X-Plus front. Right? Right! So what does that mean for us X-Plus collectors? It means more friggin figures will be coming for a while. So if you thought that hole in your wallet was going to heal and scar over you are wrong. X-Plus is going to shred our wallets in the years to come.  New sculpts through out the 25cm, 30cm and Gigantic series lines. More DefoReal figures. It is going to be good.  Just means you need to find more shelf space. HA!  Hell, the Gigantic Shin Godzilla and Gigantic Godzilla 1964 are not only monsters but they are expensive monsters.

Now, lets look at the other side of the spectrum. How can I say this without sounding like an elitist snob?! First off, I have been collecting X-Plus since early 2013. I have dumped a lot of money into this line.  I bought the 25cm Landing Stage Hedorah back in 2013 when no one gave a shit about that figure. I won it off YJA for $92. YES!!! 92 FRIGGIN DOLLARS with no other bids and no one to challenge me for it. I actually bought it with the “might as well” mind set because I saw it there. So that was a big plus for me then. Over the past four years, that figure has become highly sought after. I have seen it sell for $600+. INSANE!! Does that make the figure that valuable? Yes and no. Yes because that just shows how much some people are willing to pay for a figure.  If someone is willing to drop a certain amount of money on one figure, then it IS worth that much to them to have it. No because…JUST NO. That is nuts. 6x its initial MSRP? Crazy.  While I may be bummed that my rare 25cm Hedorah won’t be rare anymore, I have never been happy to see someone pay that much money for a figure that cost about $100. It’s absurd. Then again, I have spent a crazy amount of $$$ on figures because its what I wanted so it all depends how bad we want a certain figure.  So, to see it accessible at an attainable price with a Diamond re-issue is great!

Additionally, X-Plus USED to be exclusive and limited. With all these reissues from Diamond, they pretty much killed the exclusivity for most of the line.  What was once rare is no longer. Sure, X-Plus does their own reissues but those are even limited to small quantities.  The new 30cm Godzilla 89 with light up dorsal plates and Rose Form Biollante is going to have a small run. Why would collectors not want that? Because many got their fill of the easily accessible and affordable Diamond reissue. Is that a bad thing? Not all.

The RIC only reissues still hold up as being rare, such as the 30cm Godzilla 1964 w/closed mouth and light up dorsal plates and the recent 30cm Gigan 2004 Start Up Ver. w/light up visor are just two examples of still limited figures. Some figures are still hard to come by. Diamond has not done a 30cm Manda to this day. Not everything is accessible but most of it is.

Now, I do not plan on selling my X-Plus collection.  I have ditched all the boxes and I am in this for the long haul. I have invested a lot into X-Plus, that is clear with everything I have done with Fresh Vinyl. If it wasn’t for X-Plus, Fresh Vinyl would have never been born.  Collecting an X-Plus collection as an investment as is collecting any other toy line. Now…HOLD UP…I mean an investment as in a personal investment. Yes, I have spent a lot of money here and put a lot of work into this collection. So, yes, it is an investment because I have gained personal satisfaction from all that X-Plus has brought.  If you guys don’t look at your collections as personal investments, well…that is just silly, yah know what I mean? We all shell out lots of money for these figures, how could we not look at our collections as an investment from a personal perspective, yah know?  How else can I explain that? We don’t buy figures with the mindset “I will sell this in 6 months for X$$$ heehee”. Sure, dealers will stock up on these figures from Diamond and get them into your hands. But that is just the service those retailers provide.  Back to the investment part, I am passionate about this line just as I am passionate about Bandai and many of my stylized Marmit and M1 figures.

One other thing I think about with re-issues is how they will saturate the market.  Collectors will get into the hobby fast and then turn around and dump their figures shortly after release.  Some will cancel their orders from Vampire Robots and Flossie’s Gifts just before release. This has been a trend since the beginning of the Diamond reissues.  I understand that is how hobby works. Real life sets in and we have to let some things go to take care of more important matters. That is part of adulting. Adult first, play later. The mortgage and electric bill has to be paid. Toys are not essential.

Those that are selling older figures have a hard time selling because the supply is up and the demand is low. That is normal and I expect that. Supply and demand 101 folks. Some collectors try to get out of the line and blow out their figures for extremely fair prices. I see some collectors trying to sell 30cm figures for $110 shipped! That is amazing yet at the same time scary because a few years ago, if you tried to sell something for $110 you would have been told you are crazy for selling so cheap. Again, this is all normal.  On the Facebook X-Plus Collectors group, figures listed at $110 shipped won’t get a bite at all. Pretty crazy how the market has changed. All in all, I have nothing against anyone selling figures as it is none of my business who does what with their possessions. I have been selling off stuff for the past 2 years or so, selling non essential figures. I take that money and turn old vinyl into new vinyl.  It actually breaks my heart a little when I see figures up for sale from collectors because I love these figures so much, it stinks to see us part with them, but again, that is how the hobby works.

In conclusion, yea, I am a little bummed to see reissues of certain figures because, yes, it is nice to have something rare. Don’t kid yourself and think you wouldn’t feel the same way because then that is just hypocrisy.  More important, I am glad X-Plus is still a hot collectible line. Sure, the X-Plus bubble has popped a bit but there is plenty of room in the playground for everyone now and that my fellow collectors is pretty damn fresh at the end of the day. BAM!
Thanks for reading!

Keizer Ghidorah REVIEW!

Hey guys! I know I don’t update as much as I should nor as mush as I’d like to, but here is my review for the X-Plus 25cm Keizer Ghidorah, from 2004’s Godzilla Final Wars.  Now, I will say, while I am not a big fan (if at all) of GFW or what Toho decided to do with Ghidorah’s design for the film, the figure of Keizer Ghidorah is pretty damn cool. Originally a GOWROW model kit, X-Plus picked this up and released in May 2017 in their 25cm Toho Large Monster Series line.  He is bulky, ugly and without a doubt fresh in my book! Check out my review for all my thoughts!  FRESH!

X-Plus @ Winter WonderFest!

Ok..so..holy shit. X-Plus blew a big load in Tokyo at WF this past weekend. It was a big load..one that you need to change your sheets, that kind of load. Yea, this is not your mom and pop blog here people. Sack up.  X-Plus plans on raping your wallet for 2017 and they showed us exactly what the raping will be.  Here is a list of everything coming to the Godzilla line via 25cm, 30cm and Gigantic Series:

  • 25cm Titanosaurus
  • 25cm Gabara with Minya as the RIC
  • 25cm Keizer Ghidorah (delayed…but coming soon)
  • 25cm Godzilla 2004
  • 25cm Shin Godzilla Form A
  • 30cm Shin Godzilla Form B
  • 30cm Shin Godzilla via Yuji Sakai
  • 30cm GMK King Ghidorah
  • 30cm MechaGodzilla 93 (eventually)
  • 30cm Godzilla 2000 w/ Orange Dorsal Plates
  • Gigantic Series Shin Godzilla

Told yah..they blew a big load! There is also a Sanda and Gaira bust and another crossover piece from Evanglion, a Evanglion stylized Ms. Namikawa in Planet X dress. Meh. Not sure about these last mentioned pieces. X-Plus is still pounding out DBZ, Ultraman and some other stuff but I am just focusing on Toho related Kaiju.  In my last blog, I basically said that 2017 was looking like it was going to be an expensive year and now that WF has concluded, X-Plus has confirmed that it IS going to be an expensive year. Better start saving your pennies. I am. I am also selling off certain figures (NOT ANY X-PLUS) that I can do without from other lines I have collected. Gonna turn old vinyl into new vinyl. Anyway… X-Plus is going hard this year. I am pretty excited. I just hope all these releases are spread out accordingly.

Again, if you are reading this, this is all old news to you. These pictures were provided by Jay Davies who was in attendance at WonderFest in Tokyo.  He is one lucky SOB to see these all up close and personal. I hope to make WonderFest one of these years. But seriously, I have 4 shelves already full of X-Plus. I am pretty tapped on room on those shelves so that means I need to set up another one.  Not a big deal really but DAMN. The GSG (Gigantic Shin Godzilla) is going to be a massive shelf hog with his big ass tail. Just look at the pics below. GSG will command a lot of real estate on your friggin shelves.

I am also really glad to see X-Plus dropping Form A and B. I skipped the SHMA version because I had a vibe X-Plus was going to do their own and I am glad I skipped the SHMA ones. I don’t really care for articulation anyway. Check out the pics below if you have been under a rock the past 24 hours. BAM!

What are your thoughts? Can you swing all these releases? Do you want to get them all? Who is more crazier: us for collecting these all or X-Plus for releasing them all!? LOL
