Diamond Reissuing the 25cm’s!!

IMG_3585

So Diamond will be reissuing the 25cm line starting in 2018.  I knew this day would come. It was inevitable.  Should I be mad? No. Am I a little bummed? Yes.  Why?

Well, first off, lets talk about the AWESOMENESS this means for X-Plus collectors. This means X-Plus collectors that have been wanting to fill in gaps in their collections or those who simply been wanting to add that certain 25cm figure to their line up now have the chance to do so at a very reasonable price. You won’t have to hunt on eBay or YJA and you won’t have to deal with 3rd party sellers and their jacked up prices. King Caesar and more notably, the Landing Stage Hedorah are among the most sought after 25cm figures and now you will be able to get this VERY SOON! Make sure you check Vampire Robots and Flossies Gifts for the new pre-orders.  Seriously, this is great news. I am happy for those collectors who have been wanting these harder to find figures who will now be able to get them without paying out the ass.  Let’s be honest, some figures were going for highway robbery in the various outlets and that does bother me that some people are charging 3x, 4x or more for a figure that originally cost $100 or so (non-RIC) before shipping.

IMG_4957

What else does this good news mean? Well, if X-Plus is doing business with Diamond for reissues, this means business is good on the X-Plus front. Right? Right! So what does that mean for us X-Plus collectors? It means more friggin figures will be coming for a while. So if you thought that hole in your wallet was going to heal and scar over you are wrong. X-Plus is going to shred our wallets in the years to come.  New sculpts through out the 25cm, 30cm and Gigantic series lines. More DefoReal figures. It is going to be good.  Just means you need to find more shelf space. HA!  Hell, the Gigantic Shin Godzilla and Gigantic Godzilla 1964 are not only monsters but they are expensive monsters.

IMG_4630

Now, lets look at the other side of the spectrum. How can I say this without sounding like an elitist snob?! First off, I have been collecting X-Plus since early 2013. I have dumped a lot of money into this line.  I bought the 25cm Landing Stage Hedorah back in 2013 when no one gave a shit about that figure. I won it off YJA for $92. YES!!! 92 FRIGGIN DOLLARS with no other bids and no one to challenge me for it. I actually bought it with the “might as well” mind set because I saw it there. So that was a big plus for me then. Over the past four years, that figure has become highly sought after. I have seen it sell for $600+. INSANE!! Does that make the figure that valuable? Yes and no. Yes because that just shows how much some people are willing to pay for a figure.  If someone is willing to drop a certain amount of money on one figure, then it IS worth that much to them to have it. No because…JUST NO. That is nuts. 6x its initial MSRP? Crazy.  While I may be bummed that my rare 25cm Hedorah won’t be rare anymore, I have never been happy to see someone pay that much money for a figure that cost about $100. It’s absurd. Then again, I have spent a crazy amount of $$$ on figures because its what I wanted so it all depends how bad we want a certain figure.  So, to see it accessible at an attainable price with a Diamond re-issue is great!

Additionally, X-Plus USED to be exclusive and limited. With all these reissues from Diamond, they pretty much killed the exclusivity for most of the line.  What was once rare is no longer. Sure, X-Plus does their own reissues but those are even limited to small quantities.  The new 30cm Godzilla 89 with light up dorsal plates and Rose Form Biollante is going to have a small run. Why would collectors not want that? Because many got their fill of the easily accessible and affordable Diamond reissue. Is that a bad thing? Not all.

The RIC only reissues still hold up as being rare, such as the 30cm Godzilla 1964 w/closed mouth and light up dorsal plates and the recent 30cm Gigan 2004 Start Up Ver. w/light up visor are just two examples of still limited figures. Some figures are still hard to come by. Diamond has not done a 30cm Manda to this day. Not everything is accessible but most of it is.

Now, I do not plan on selling my X-Plus collection.  I have ditched all the boxes and I am in this for the long haul. I have invested a lot into X-Plus, that is clear with everything I have done with Fresh Vinyl. If it wasn’t for X-Plus, Fresh Vinyl would have never been born.  Collecting an X-Plus collection as an investment as is collecting any other toy line. Now…HOLD UP…I mean an investment as in a personal investment. Yes, I have spent a lot of money here and put a lot of work into this collection. So, yes, it is an investment because I have gained personal satisfaction from all that X-Plus has brought.  If you guys don’t look at your collections as personal investments, well…that is just silly, yah know what I mean? We all shell out lots of money for these figures, how could we not look at our collections as an investment from a personal perspective, yah know?  How else can I explain that? We don’t buy figures with the mindset “I will sell this in 6 months for X$$$ heehee”. Sure, dealers will stock up on these figures from Diamond and get them into your hands. But that is just the service those retailers provide.  Back to the investment part, I am passionate about this line just as I am passionate about Bandai and many of my stylized Marmit and M1 figures.

One other thing I think about with re-issues is how they will saturate the market.  Collectors will get into the hobby fast and then turn around and dump their figures shortly after release.  Some will cancel their orders from Vampire Robots and Flossie’s Gifts just before release. This has been a trend since the beginning of the Diamond reissues.  I understand that is how hobby works. Real life sets in and we have to let some things go to take care of more important matters. That is part of adulting. Adult first, play later. The mortgage and electric bill has to be paid. Toys are not essential.

Those that are selling older figures have a hard time selling because the supply is up and the demand is low. That is normal and I expect that. Supply and demand 101 folks. Some collectors try to get out of the line and blow out their figures for extremely fair prices. I see some collectors trying to sell 30cm figures for $110 shipped! That is amazing yet at the same time scary because a few years ago, if you tried to sell something for $110 you would have been told you are crazy for selling so cheap. Again, this is all normal.  On the Facebook X-Plus Collectors group, figures listed at $110 shipped won’t get a bite at all. Pretty crazy how the market has changed. All in all, I have nothing against anyone selling figures as it is none of my business who does what with their possessions. I have been selling off stuff for the past 2 years or so, selling non essential figures. I take that money and turn old vinyl into new vinyl.  It actually breaks my heart a little when I see figures up for sale from collectors because I love these figures so much, it stinks to see us part with them, but again, that is how the hobby works.

In conclusion, yea, I am a little bummed to see reissues of certain figures because, yes, it is nice to have something rare. Don’t kid yourself and think you wouldn’t feel the same way because then that is just hypocrisy.  More important, I am glad X-Plus is still a hot collectible line. Sure, the X-Plus bubble has popped a bit but there is plenty of room in the playground for everyone now and that my fellow collectors is pretty damn fresh at the end of the day. BAM!
Thanks for reading!

X-Plus @ Winter WonderFest!

Ok..so..holy shit. X-Plus blew a big load in Tokyo at WF this past weekend. It was a big load..one that you need to change your sheets, that kind of load. Yea, this is not your mom and pop blog here people. Sack up.  X-Plus plans on raping your wallet for 2017 and they showed us exactly what the raping will be.  Here is a list of everything coming to the Godzilla line via 25cm, 30cm and Gigantic Series:

  • 25cm Titanosaurus
  • 25cm Gabara with Minya as the RIC
  • 25cm Keizer Ghidorah (delayed…but coming soon)
  • 25cm Godzilla 2004
  • 25cm Shin Godzilla Form A
  • 30cm Shin Godzilla Form B
  • 30cm Shin Godzilla via Yuji Sakai
  • 30cm GMK King Ghidorah
  • 30cm MechaGodzilla 93 (eventually)
  • 30cm Godzilla 2000 w/ Orange Dorsal Plates
  • Gigantic Series Shin Godzilla

Told yah..they blew a big load! There is also a Sanda and Gaira bust and another crossover piece from Evanglion, a Evanglion stylized Ms. Namikawa in Planet X dress. Meh. Not sure about these last mentioned pieces. X-Plus is still pounding out DBZ, Ultraman and some other stuff but I am just focusing on Toho related Kaiju.  In my last blog, I basically said that 2017 was looking like it was going to be an expensive year and now that WF has concluded, X-Plus has confirmed that it IS going to be an expensive year. Better start saving your pennies. I am. I am also selling off certain figures (NOT ANY X-PLUS) that I can do without from other lines I have collected. Gonna turn old vinyl into new vinyl. Anyway… X-Plus is going hard this year. I am pretty excited. I just hope all these releases are spread out accordingly.

Again, if you are reading this, this is all old news to you. These pictures were provided by Jay Davies who was in attendance at WonderFest in Tokyo.  He is one lucky SOB to see these all up close and personal. I hope to make WonderFest one of these years. But seriously, I have 4 shelves already full of X-Plus. I am pretty tapped on room on those shelves so that means I need to set up another one.  Not a big deal really but DAMN. The GSG (Gigantic Shin Godzilla) is going to be a massive shelf hog with his big ass tail. Just look at the pics below. GSG will command a lot of real estate on your friggin shelves.

I am also really glad to see X-Plus dropping Form A and B. I skipped the SHMA version because I had a vibe X-Plus was going to do their own and I am glad I skipped the SHMA ones. I don’t really care for articulation anyway. Check out the pics below if you have been under a rock the past 24 hours. BAM!

What are your thoughts? Can you swing all these releases? Do you want to get them all? Who is more crazier: us for collecting these all or X-Plus for releasing them all!? LOL

X-Plus Vs 2017..and your wallet!

I feel like I don’t write anymore. Well until now because X-Plus is going to blow the shit out of our wallets. Look, I am not going to talk to you guys like kindergarteners. I am going to write this as if we are talking face to face. By the time of this writing, if you are an avid X-Plus collector like I am then you know what is coming out the end of March of this year. You don’t need me to spoon feed you information.  On to business! Forget about any re-issues. I am not talking about re-issues here. I am talking about BRAND NEW X-Plus figures that have not seen the light of day until NOW. X-Plus is hitting us hard for the month of March 2017. 25cm Keizer Ghidorah, 25cm Titanosaurus and a 30cm Burning Godzilla.

Bitching. I am glad I am in Houston, Texas right now making some extra OT because I am going to need it come the end of March.  X-Plus is smoking some serious good shit over there. Maybe inhaling too much Fresh Vinyl? Probably. They are like…”Lets slap these bitches with three Toho releases in one month!”.  Hell, if you are an Ultraman collector, that is a little easier and less painful but DAMN.  I am getting all three of the March releases. Now, that is if all three release as scheduled.  I am probably going to have to drop almost $1000 for those three after shipping and all.  CRAZY. Us collectors have to stop and ask ourselves “Should I get one? Two? All three?” I am a nut when it comes to X-Plus so I will be going after all three but I am even feeling the pressure.  I guess I can kind of look at it like this: No end of January or end of February release so…its not that bad, right? I guess it is not. It would have been easier if these were spread out a bit. My wallet is taking a breather right now but its going to get kicked in the balls come March.

What else is coming? How about the just teased 25cm GMK King Ghidorah?! How about a 25cm Gabara!?

Yea, X-Plus is doing big things for 2017 so far. Gabara is slated for an end of June release. ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME! I will say a few of us knew Gabara was coming because while in Osaka, Japan with Gee Okamoto from X-Plus HQ, while out to dinner at Kaiju Sakaba, I asked him if Gabara was on the way.  So excited for this figure. I currently do not own a Gabara in my collection at all so this is a very welcomed addition to Fresh Vinyl HQ. The 25cm GMK King Ghidorah was JUST teased on Feb. 3, 2017 so no info is available at this time regarding release date, price or RIC extra.  We have 5 big releases coming our way. How does this affect the way we collect? Depends on if we want a certain Kaiju and depends on our budgets. Yea, I am sure we will see plenty of these figures go up for sale a month or so after release because some people just like to dip there finger in the flavor of the month. That’s the truth, though I accept it, it doesn’t mean I have to like it but whatever. I really can’t wait for these release. I am super excited about …ALL OF THEM. Hell, Godzilla Final Wars is not an enjoyable film by any means and I have never been a fan of the design of Keizer Ghidorah because it is simply not what I think about when I think of King Ghidorah BUT this X-Plus version of the Gow Row Keizer Ghidorah is really bad ass looking. And it’s X-Plus so, you guys know I am an X-Plus whore so I gotta get it. Just look at him:

Better start saving your pennies. Any Ghidorah figure will be a lot of money. Given that both upcoming Ghidorah figures are being reproduced from form model kits, they will most likely be on the higher end of our budgets. When the Showa King Ghidorah came out, that was about $300 before shipping. The bigger the figure, the higher the shipping cost.

I haven’t even mentioned the Diamond re-issues people! Those of you that are hunting down older 30cm figures and looking to fill in gaps, the Diamond re-issues are the way to go. Good thing is those figures are readily available and very affordable. Make sure you check out Flossie’s Gifts and Vampire Robots for those pre-orders to stay current on your Diamond re-issues. I am going to need another shelf for my G-ROOM or I need to get my ass into gear and finish my basement this year. I am probably going to sell off some non essential stuff too. S.H. Monster Arts and some Bandai stuff. No X-Plus will leave my grip. Ok. I am done rambling. Bring on the X-Plus.

New X-Plus for 2017!!

Oh boy, X-Plus is running out of the gate for 2017 already! X-Plus is set up at the Tokyo Comic Con and they have teased a new Toho 30cm Series Burning Godzilla, a 25cm Toho Large Monster Series Keizer Ghidorah and Titanosaurs.  In addition to these new figures, a 25cm Large Monster Series Shin Godzilla is on display as well. It looks like this is either a frozen Shin Godzilla or just an unpainted prototype.

The Toho 30cm Series Burning Godzilla should be a FULL SIZE 30cm figure. The RIC Exclusive version has not been revealed at this time but it appears from the placard that the standard version will be ¥22,680/$198 and the proposed RIC will be ¥24,840/$217. When I was in Japan with fellow collectors Kyle, David, Jon and Dell, a year ago at the time of this writing, we saw what appeared to be a prototype 30cm Godzilla 95. I have to go back and look at my pictures from the X-Plus HQ, but the official 30cm Godzilla 1995 pictured here to what I saw appears to be different. Also take note, this will now be the third Burning Godzilla, not including the SDCC or the Freezing GBG, to have come out from X-Plus. We have the original Gigantic Burning Godzilla and the 25cm Burning Godzilla. I can tell you from these early prototype photos of this new 30cm BG, the detail looks way better than the 25cm’s detail. The 25cm Burning Godzilla had somewhat of a lackluster detail and paint job on the face while trying to cover the vinyl to prevent bleed through for the RIC version. Here is to hoping this 30cm version of Burning Godzilla is a home run!  Release should be first quarter of 2017.

For the first time in X-Plus vinyl form, from Godzilla Final Wars, Keizer Ghidorah will be released in the 25cm Toho Large Monster Series line. The proposed standard price will be ¥22,680/$198 and the proposed RIC Exclusive is ¥24,840/$217. Not much of a big difference between the proposed standard and RIC price. One thing is for sure, Keizer Ghidorah will be a pretty big 25cm figure!  Release should be first quarter of 2017!

Now the 25cm Godzilla 1975 and 25cm MechaGodzilla 1975 will have the final piece to complete the line up with a 25cm Titanosaurus! The proposed standard price will be ¥14,580/$127  and the proposed RIC Exclusive is ¥15,012/$131. Hmm…that does not sound right based off what is on the placard. $3 difference from the standard to the RIC. I cannot translate what is on the placard so we will have to wait for further info from another source for the time being. Most of us avid X-Plus collectors already have a 30cm Titanosaurus. Will you be jumping into the 25cm version?!  Release should be first quarter of 2017!

Here is the 25cm Shin Godzilla. The Shin Godzilla in the picture appears to be a prototype,…or is it? This kind of looks like a frozen form of Godzilla from the end of Shin Godzilla once the blood coagulate kicked in, freezing Godzilla’s blood and rendering him frozen in place. Or, this is just an unpainted vinyl prototype made of dark vinyl awaiting the red highlights. The placard states releases dates for December 2016 and January 2017 to coincide with the releases dates for the first and second batches. Yes, there are two batches of the standard 25cm being released because the demand was so high for this figure. Is it just a unpainted prototype or a Frozen form Shin Godzilla?! You tell me!

2017 is starting off hot! I can’t fathom these orders right now at the time of this writing. Get your wallets ready people. Diamond is still releasing their reissues and we also have a new Sakai G92 on the way along with a new repainted RIC Gigan 2004. X-Plus teased a MechaGodzilla 93 a few months ago, so, our plates are full. That is all I have for now! Save up your pennies so you can buy vinyl, fresh vinyl! BAM!

Where to buy Kaiju from?

Ever wonder what are some of the best places to buy Kaiju collectibles from? Looking for some rare Bandai figures? How about the new Diamond X-Plus reissue figures from the Toho 30cm Series? What about the Toho Large Monster Series Biollante or King Ghidorah? Marmit figures? How about vintage figures such as Bullmark, Marusan and others? Who are good sites to trust? I have compiled a list of “Go to” merchants that I have used over the years and that I highly recommend. Watch on to see who I think we should be shopping with. If you have questions, please ask. FRESH!

X-Plus Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962!

On April 14, 2016, X-Plus officially announced on the RIC site the release of the Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962 from 1962’s King Kong Vs Godzilla!! ギガンティックシリーズキンゴジ!!Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.27.38 AM

Pre-orders are open right now for the RIC exclusive with a price point of ¥39,900 which translates to about $365 based on currency exchange rates. The window for the RIC pre-order closes on April 18th!!! That is only 4 days! The release window for this figure is looking like it will be the end of May and/or early June!! That will be a busy month for collectors with the 30cm Battra and now a Gigantic Godzilla 1962!! Start saving your pennies!!

The Gigantic Godzilla 1962 will stand 48cm tall!!! Now, just to put this into perspective, the Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla is a hair shorter at 47cm!! This Godzilla is BIG! Godzilla 62 will also be 65cm from foot tip to the tail tip(if I read that correctly)! You are going to need a big ass shelf for this big sum bitch!! Godzilla will also be made of PVC, or as I like to call it, VINYL! BAM!

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.27.51 AM

Based off the translation from the RIC site, the RIC exclusive for Godzilla 1962 will be painted dorsal plates to give off the look of charging up dorsal plates. Instead of actually putting a light up gimmick, the dorsal plates will look similar to that of the Gigantic Series Godzilla 2000, the Roaring Godzilla 2014 and the Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla. Honestly, if this figure had a light up feature, it would probably cost a whole lot more money than it already does. On another hand, to get this figure to light up sounds like a real pain in the ass at the end of the day. That is a lot of wires and lights to shove up inside this figure. I am good with the RIC gimmick that they are going for. Which one are you going to get, RIC or standard?!

Upon announcement, these photo’s for the figure are unpainted. This leaves so imagination to us collectors to visualize what this big ass figure is going to look like when its all said and done but let me ask you this, are we really doubting X-Plus? Sure, there have been some hits and misses in the past but X-Plus has a very good track record so on my own account, I am not worried about what it will look like. I am sure it will look FRESH.

What else about this figure?! This is a brand new sculpt fro Kaibutsuya, the same company behind the Gigantic Series GMK and Burning Godzilla figures. While in Japan, a few other collectors and myself had the privilege of seeing this beauty still in clay form having the finishing touches sculpted on to it. When we saw this guy, our jaw’s hit the floor. You will not be disappointed! This is also a suit accurate Godzilla where as the previous Godzilla’s in this line were stylized. It is nice to mix things up and to have a suit accurate Gigantic Series release is a great addition to the line. Maybe we will get that M1 50cm Godzilla 1964 later down the road!!!

I am also going to take a guess the legs will be reinforced to support the weight of the figure so it does not slouch or droop in the warmer months. The tail will need to be assembled right out of the box. The box will most likely be fashioned in the same manner as the GGMK and GBG. Be prepared for a big ass box too!

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.28.11 AM

X-Plus collectors thought a Gigantic Series Godzilla 1954 was going to be coming next but this came out of left field! That only means we will have a 5th release in this line later down the road with the G54. Time will tell! Amiami, Hobby Link Japan and other online retailers have not offered the Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962 just yet on their sites. Expect them to pop up in the next few days or so. Stay tuned for more pictures once they are unveiled by X-Plus!!

FRESH! I can’t wait to get this guy!

New X-Plus Announcements!

NEW X-PLUS ANNOUNCEMENTS!! Ok, hopefully by now you have seen these pictures since they popped up on Facebook! At the Spring Miyazawa Model Exhibition, X-Plus revealed a 25cm Leatherback from Pacific Rim, a 30cm MechaGodzilla 1975, a 30cm Battra larvae and a Gigantic Series Godzilla 1962!

IMG_8724

Gee Okamoto, representative from X-Plus HQ, mentioned last year that we would see Pacific Rim figures from X-Plus and now they are ready to roll out the first release. Leatherback is the first release.  The Pacific Rim line is to be in the 25cm scale. This is a big ass 25cm figure that is for sure. No price or release date for this guy as of yes.

From the Toho 30cm Series, MechaGodzilla 1975 will be released at the end of June 2016. The price point is looking to be ¥19,440 which is translated to about $179.  First impression of this figure is beautiful. The wear and tear looks spot on. Lots of wrinkles and nice paint apps.

Up next is the a Gigantic Godzilla 1962 (King-Goji)! This is a new sculpt from Kaibitsuya! The previous releases in the Gigantic line were stylized where this new Godzilla is quite suit accurate. I love it. While I was in Japan in December 2015 I had the privilege of seeing this figure in clay form still being sculpted. This is a BIG figure. No release date or price set yet but I am going to guess this is going to be over $300 before shipping. Can’t wait for this!

Last week X-Plus announced via the RIC site a Toho 30cm Series Battra larve! This is a reproduction of the Gow Row kit that came out a few years ago. The RIC exclusive for this release will be light up eyes and horn. This is expected to release at the end of May 2016 with a price point of ¥19,980 or about $183.

We have a hot summer ahead of us from X-Plus. This news also comes on the heels of the Blue Fin announcement that they will be distributing a 25cm King Ghidorah and a 25cm Biollante!! Check out the news for those figures at Kaiju Addicts here!

Start saving your pennies guys! New FRESH VINYL is a coming!!
